B18 Red Infield Blankets and others

  8 Lots

Also see lot 8

The following 5 lots are rare 1914 B18 Blanket "Red Infield" variations.

Lot 135.  B18 Red Infield George Burns, Detroit. Nearly perfect, vivid colors, an even border all around and a sharp illustration. Ex+-mt.
Winning Bid $4,602

Lot 136.  B18 Red Infield Martin Cavanaugh Detroit. “Cavanaugh” is one of several B18’s which are spelled incorrectly as it should be “Kavanaugh”. It is also one of the nicer ones in the group with fresh, vivid colors and bordered all around (though close on one side). Excellent-mint.
Winning Bid $3,141

Lot 137.  B18 Red Infield Harry Coveleskie, Detroit. Often confused with his Hall of Fame brother, Stan, Harry was also a player of note, winning 20 games in 1914, 1915 and 1916 for Detroit. The B18 of Coveleskie, condition wise along with Burns, is the best of the group with fresh colors, clear printing and a border all around. Ex+-mt.
Winning Bid $3,146

Lot 138.  B18 Red Infield George Moriarty, Detroit. An excellent example of a B18. The Moriarty shows great color and an even border and has some slight soiling.
Winning Bid $1,610

Lot 139.  B18 Red Infield Leslie Mann, Boston. Mann, an outfielder on Boston’s Championship team and the only Boston red infield in the group is in excellent condition with vivid colors, borders all around and has slight soiling on the rear in one spot.
Winning Bid $4,183

Lot 140.  B18 Blanket Joe Connolly, Boston with unknown red base paths, pink bases and pennants. Possibly a one-of-a-kind color combination showing Connolly with unknown characteristics. Connolly, a .300 hitting outfielder on the Boston NL championship team is one of the 18 players with either Detroit or Boston known with a brown infield. Boston Players are known in 3 possible color combinations (including the “red infields” all of which have blue basepaths, green pennants and green bases. The combination presented here for Connolly is unexplained and no others are known. The B18 Connolly is in excellent condition with borders all around.
Winning Bid $977

Lot 141.  Partial uncut Sheet of 15 complete B18’s including Joe Jackson and Miller Huggins. Also includes partial B18’s of six others. The colors are the most difficult yellow and purple combination and feature players from Cleveland and St. Louis NL, however the colors are faded, but it is easy to see what they once were. The Jackson has the yellow bases and purple paths and the Huggins is the opposite. The other complete B18’s on the sheet are Mitchell, Chapman, Bassler, Turner, Graney, Olson, Leibold and O’Neil from Cleveland. Also Steele, Sallee, Miller, Doak and Robinson from the Cardinals. The partial sheet is 34” long and 15” wide. It has some creases as might be expected but is excellent otherwise.
Winning Bid $977

Lot 142.  B18 Blanket in the original 3” x 2” envelope. May have been opened at one time. Appears to be a Brooklyn or New York player.
Winning Bid $932
